Together with internations.org we organise an event
Istanbul Drawing Day 24 of August
We spend an amazing day with multi-discipline artist VeraDG (@veradg.art), walking and drawing in Galata and Karakoy, areas full of contemporary graffiti art. Feel the sway of the day in exciting Istanbul, with her historical streets and wonderful panoramas. The challenge for today is to observe and draw our impressions on paper.
Even if you never did this before, under the skilled guidance of mentor VeraDG, you can make your first steps in the art of sketching. This exiting experience can result in unexpected creations that may provide interesting material for all art-lovers.
Meeting point is at Metrostation Sishane, exit Istiklal Cad at 11:00 am. We start walking in the Beyoglu area. At the rooftop terrace of the Galata Tower we’ll take a brake, enjoying those famous Pera-Sultanahmet views -obviously sipping tea- and making try-outs for our first ‘masterpieces’.
We continue along the old streets of Pera to Karakoy (area close to Istanbul Modern).
This ancient district has a lot of historical landmarks. For example, after the 1905 Revolution in Russia many refugees found a living here, among them famous people. Our guide will provide more details. It was also an important harbour and thus a center for business and trade. Nowadays many streets of Karakoy are decorated, deliberately or not, with colourful graffiti. And moreover it’s a hub for trendy cafes, bars and restaurants, crowded by ‘young urban people’ (Yuppees). A fine occasion for our second drawing session.
Depending on time we might visit Istanbul Modern as well.
